The end of a beautiful August...
It's hard to imagine that August has flown so quickly! And now I'm just giving you a quick update as I rush out to prepare for the night. The short of it is that I'm so completely overwhelmed by the generosity of this community. The reaction to my crisis call has been well beyond what I would've imagined. (If you don't know what I'm talking about and you're curious click here.) You never know who your friends are until the going gets rough, they say. Well if that's the case, I've discovered that I have some amazing friends! I got a few donations from around the world. Someone even left an anonymous $100 cash in an envelope on my doorstep, maybe trying to convince me that not just people, but the universe is my friend. Anyway, I'm overjoyed by all of this. And the other bizarre stroke of present fortune is that after sending a letter telling her I didn't think she was justified or kind in asking me to move I haven't heard a word from her, nor has she cashed my rent check. So it's strange and makes me slightly uneasy, but at least I know I'm in an abundant enough place to move when the moment arises.
So that's that personal drama and comedy.
Otherwise, I'm really excited about the creative adventures coming up. I'll be back at Cal State Dominguez Hills tomorrow for the first time in a couple years, I think. They have a cultural center there run by an old friend from the National Conference for Community and Justice and I've been invited several times to share my experience in story and song.
Then on Friday we start shooting 68 and Clear, a film my friend Dawn Westlake wrote with me and another Clippers friend in mind. (I'm not getting to thespian just yet, I only sing... My songs "I See Everything" and "Democracy at the Point of a Gun are featured.") The following weekend we might be shooting a video for All I Love, directed by Carolyn McDonald who did the film PNOK which I scored in '05.
Also that weekend I'll be playing in the Cornucopia show in North Hollywood. It's this wonderful production that Ellen Switkes puts together monthly with several storytellers and a musician. And it's actually kind of nice because it's stated as not a show for children. I love it that people bring kids to my shows sometimes, but it's also nice to know that there's a place where your completely free to drop an F-bomb or discuss sexuality unveiled. I'm looking forward to it.
Then I've got a couple Synergy shows coming up.
It's all in the calendar, www.jasonluckett.com/dates.
And here's where I say stay tuned for more...
Love and peace at the end of August 2007.
